‘Gharana Music’: Dr. Karan Singh launches Vidushi Meeta Pandit’s book

 Amid the routine hustle and bustle of the metropolis and as Delhi was preparing to host the Maha-Natya on Raja Shivaji, in a quiet and small function a legend was honoured by the music and book loving glitterati of the capital. The gathering honoured her and her father.

In fact their six generations.

Scholar statesman Dr. Karan Singh and scion of Gwalior royal family Jyotiraditya Scindia spoke and paid rich,  tributes Dr. Meeta Pandit and her father Pt. Laxman Krishnarao Pandit.

Dr. Meeta, is the sixth generation, and first woman in the family to take up music professionally. Granddaughter and disciple of Padmabhushan Dr. Krishnarao Shankar Pandit, Meeta devoted the book- ‘India's Heritage of Gharana Music: Pandits of Gwalior’- to Tushar, her brother who died in an accident when just 27.

The well-known Pandit family of Gwalior have preserved and popularised the historic Gwalior Gharana gayaki wrote Ustad Amzad Ali Khan in praise of the book. Dr. Meeta has done extensive research to bring out the musical journey of the Pandits of Gwalior in a coffee table book brought out by Shubhi Publications.
